Overview
The client's public-facing AWS workloads were exposed with overly permissive network rules and no application-layer protection in front of them, leaving common web attack patterns and unnecessary open ports as avoidable risk.
The goal was to reduce that exposure without disrupting existing traffic: add edge protection where it was missing and bring network access rules in line with least-privilege.
What I Did
Hardened the AWS network and edge security posture in place, without downtime.
- Deployed AWS WAF with managed and custom rule sets in front of public-facing services
- Audited and tightened Security Groups to remove overly permissive inbound rules
- Segmented access by service to reduce lateral exposure
- Documented the resulting network and edge security baseline for ongoing maintenance
